(the imgur image is 404 so can't access it) LNA4ALL, as stated, has a lower noise figure. I really doubt that the LNA is faulty in any way, mine is working smooth ever since the review went online, used frequently. Try turning amplification down on the LNA before you start drawing conclusion, that might help. Low S/N ratio is a sign of either too much electrical noise, incorrect gain or an other and unexplored factor. However, batteries are the preferred way for really weak signal reception due to less electrical noise manifesting at the first stage of amplification. LNA operates on 5V supply, so giving it a higher voltage will not make any difference. I've written the review you reference above on. So what gives with this? Obviously I can receive fine without it, but I wanted to boost the signal for METEOR M2, which is decidedly weaker, without needing to turn the LNA on and back off again every time I wanted to use it.

Aaaaaaaaahh! I will often get errors in the log such as "Narrow IF bandwidth (purchase upgrade key!), low S/N, or volume too high" complaints from wxtoimg, even if I try to lower it using sox (-v 0.8 and the like). With no LNA, my NOAA images look like this.īut with the LNA in line, the images are completely hosed. Which is all well and good, but whenever it is used, the NOAA decodes go completely into the dumpster. This would make it necessary to have the LNA inline between the antenna (a QFH for 137 MHz) and the dongle. Currently it's receiving NOAA weather satellite images but I wanted to expand to other things, such as METEOR M2. Some time ago I purchased one of these preamps for my RTL-SDR receiver (running on a Raspberry Pi) for decoding various things. In contrast, the Planar Disk is almost free and it performs quite well in an indoor setting. Just because an antenna "is sold" does not mean its good or even marginal. Please verify your dongle is working with a good antenna before complaining that you cannot receive something. Here is a great, broadband Planar Disk Antenna that outperforms most commercial antennas of similar size for under $65-75 and can be built in a half hour or less by beginners with less than $10 in parts. See our wiki with tutorials and other resources including a Quick Start page to verify your dongle works.
